You can register to vote or update your registration information:

  • by mail
  • in person at your elections office
  • online
  • at the polls on Election Day

You must have resided in Idaho at least 30 days prior to the election in which you intend to vote.

Polling places are open from 8am to 8pm on Election Day.

Early Voting

Registered voters may vote absentee in person before Election Day at an early voting site. Contact your County Clerk for the dates, times and location of early voting in your county.

Most counties use the county courthouse or elections office for early voting. Early voting ends in all counties at 5:00 P.M. on the Friday before Election Day.

Absentee Voting

Idaho allows any registered voter to request an absentee ballot and vote by mail.

You are eligible to vote in Idaho if you:

  • Are a U.S citizen
  • Are a resident of Idaho
  • Are at least 18 years old by Election Day

You are NOT eligible to vote in Idaho if:

  • You are in prison or detention or jail or penal institution

Student Eligibility

If you are a student, you are eligible to vote in Idaho if:

  • You reside in Idaho but are attending college in another state
  • You reside in another state but attend college in Idaho
  • You provide a valid photo student ID from a college/university in Idaho at the polls

Voter Registration

To register to vote in Idaho you should provide one of the following:

  • Your Idaho Driver's License Number

If you do not have this ID you may alternatively provide:

  • Last Four Digits of your Social Security Number

In order to complete your voter registration in Idaho, you will need to provide a proof of residency. Accepted documents include:

  • Current and Valid Photo ID
  • Utility Bill, Bank Statement, Government Check, or Paycheck that Shows your current name and address
  • Government Issued Document that shows your current name and address

You can alternatively show one of these documents when you vote to complete your registration.

Voting In-Person

If you are registered to vote in Idaho, you are required to show ID to vote; or, you may instead sign an affidavit or similar document. Accepted forms of ID include:

  • Valid Federal Issued ID
  • Valid Idaho Driver's License
  • Valid Student ID
  • Valid US Passport
  • Valid Idaho Issued ID
  • Valid Tribal ID
  • License to Carry Concealed Weapon or Firearm
