Early Voting

All properly registered voters will automatically receive a mail ballot packet approximately 18 days prior to the election.

Registration

You can register to vote or update your registration information:

  • online
  • by mail
  • in person at your elections office
  • when applying for/renewing a Hawaii Driver License or State ID (automatic unless you decline)

If you miss the deadline to register (up to 10 days before an election), late registration is available at early walk in voting locations.

Election Day Voting

Polling places are open from 7am to 7pm on Election Day.

Early Voting

Voter service centers will be open 10 business days prior to each election. Any registered voter may walk-in to any early voting location in their county to cast their vote before Election Day. Exact times and locations are available here

Absentee Voting

Hawaii votes by mail. All voters will automatically receive their ballot in the mail 18 days prior to each election. Voters with disabilities who cannot read standard print may now request an electronic ballot to be permanently emailed every election.

You are eligible to vote in Hawaii if you:

  • Are a U.S citizen
  • Are a resident of Hawaii
  • Are at least 18 years old by Election Day

Restorative Requirements

  • You are a convicted felon involving moral turpitude, unless your voting rights have been restored.

You may preregister to vote in Hawaii

  • At the age 16

Student Eligibility

If you are a student, you are eligible to vote in Hawaii if:

  • You reside in Hawaii but are attending college in another state
  • You reside in another state but attend college in Hawaii

Voter Registration

To register to vote in Hawaii you should provide:

  • Your Hawaii Driver's License or State ID Number (online applicants only)
  • Your Social Security Number

If you are registering to vote for the first time by mail, you will need to provide a copy of a valid ID. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Current and Valid Photo ID
  • Utility Bill, Bank Statement, Government Check, or Paycheck that Shows your current name and address
  • Government Issued Document that shows your current name and address

You can alternatively show one of these documents when you vote to complete your registration.

Voting In-Person

If you registered to vote in Hawaii, you may be required to present valid ID if you are voting for the first time or your registration is incomplete. You can use any ID from this list:

  • Current and Valid Photo ID

If you do not have an ID from the above list, in Hawaii additional, acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Current Utility Bill
  • Paycheck that Shows your Name and Address
  • A Government Issued Document that shows your Current Name and Address
  • Government Check
  • Bank Statement
