Election Day Voting

Polling places in Central time zone are open from 8am to 8pm on Election Day; Polling places in Mountain time zone are open from 7am to 7pm on Election Day.

Early Voting

Nebraska has designated absentee voting as their early voting option for registered voters. Voters can vote in person at their county clerk offices beginning 30 days before the day of election. Contact your local clerk or county office for precise early voting hours.

Early Voting temporarily suspended for the May 2020 elections.

Absentee Voting

Any registered voter can request an absentee or ""early"" ballot and vote by mail. Ballots can be requested up to 120 days prior to Election Day, and no later than the close of business on the second Friday preceding the election.

You are eligible to vote in Nebraska if you:

  • Are a U.S citizen
  • Are a resident of Nebraska
  • Are at least 18 years old by Election Day

You are NOT eligible to vote in Nebraska if:

  • You have been legally declared "mentally incompetent" by a court

Restorative Requirements

  • At least two years have passed since the completion of a felony sentence including any parole term.

You may preregister to vote in Nebraska

  • at 17 years of age and provided you will be 18 by the next general election.

Student Eligibility

If you are a student, you are eligible to vote in Nebraska if:

  • You reside in Nebraska but are attending college in another state
  • You reside in another state but attend college in Nebraska

Voter Registration

To register to vote in Nebraska you should provide:

  • Your Nebraska Driver's License Number

If you do not have these IDs, you may provide:

  • The Last Four Digits of your Social Security Number

If you are registering to vote for the first time by mail, you will need to provide a copy of a valid ID. Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Current and Valid Photo ID
  • Utility Bill, Bank Statement, Government Check, or Paycheck that Shows your current name and address
  • Government Issued Document that shows your current name and address

Documents must be dated within 60 days of the date you registered

Voting In-Person

If you registered to vote in Nebraska, you may be required to present valid ID if you are voting for the first time or your registration is incomplete. You can use any ID from this list:

  • Paycheck that shows your Current Name and Address
  • Current and Valid Photo ID
  • Utility Bill
  • Bank Statement
  • Government Check
  • Government Issued Document that shows your Current Name and Address

Statements, checks and bills should be dated no earlier than 60 days before Election Day.
